Local designer Hayley Elsaesser unveils online store

Like a vibrant clash of colour on a child’s canvas (and sleeves), Hayley Elsaesser’s graduate collection Candy Coated Voodoo sees ghoulish prints merge with splashes of neon and a hefty dose of cool. Now the designer has launched an online store so you can kit yourself out in her colourful creations.

Spiders running up your legs, eyeballs rolling over your jacket, skulls spilling down your dress – QUT graduate Hayley Elsaesser has really treated her customers to a covetable creepfest with her debut collection. The 24-year-old Canadian-born, Brisbane-based designer combined scary characters from her childhood with a sickly sweet colour palette to create an intriguing paradox of light versus dark.

Tailored silhouettes are accented with laser-cut leather details and crocodile embossing, and spread across a range of tops, dresses, skirts, pants, jackets, knitted jumpers, baseball caps, clutches and tote bags. Fashion fiends can stop pining and start picking, with the designer launching her online boutique to an eager fanbase.

As one of 12 emerging designers recently selected for Sportsgirl’s National Graduate Showcase at L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, Hayley has already earnt herself quite the buzz within fashion circles. She’s now tinkering away on her highly anticipated follow-up collection as part of the Creative Enterprise Australia (CEA) Fashion Incubator program, which sees emerging designers offered guidance and support from experienced industry professionals.
