Dank Magazine

Norwegian Dank Magazine celebrates skate style

Just as surfers worship the ocean each morning, those with a love for skateboarding find peace on a desolate concrete path.

A publication by three Norwegian skaters seeking a creative outlet, Dank Magazine is a skating journal inspired by a passion for skateboarding and the crisp design of magazines such as Fantastic Man. The publication started its days as a zine to fill a hole in the Norwegian magazine market for skating literature, but demand for the eloquent stories and crisp photography quickly saw it evolve into a magazine. The magazine’s title was borrowed from a colloquial Norwegian term that simply means to pass time while doing absolutely nothing – a hobby close to the heart of magazine lovers.

While the words are not written in English, many of the stories in the magazines are told through photography and visual essays. For skating enthusiasts who aren’t fluent in Norwegian, the latest issue also includes an English zine, Dank in Translation, full of intriguing prose and interviews.

Local online skate store Boneyard Supply is now stocking Dank Magazine.
