Living in a city doesn’t mean you can’t connect with nature – check out our favourite inner-city community gardens around Brisbane.

Northey Street City Farm – Windsor: This permaculture farm offers internships, volunteer opportunities, hands-on workshops, as well as year-long garden allotments for those who don’t have access to a garden at home. Children’s playgroup sessions are held every Tuesday and Friday morning and the Edibles Landscapes Nursery is open Tuesday and Thursday through to Sunday.
Jane Street Community Garden – West End: Sitting just behind the Davies Park Market in West End, this garden offers plots for rent as well as volunteer opportunities. Sustainable principles are employed to grow fresh produce and other plants.
Bethania Street Community Garden – Lota: Cared for by the self-funded Wynnum Manly Community Gardens Group, this green patch aims to help promote the benefits of organic gardening. Located within Cox Park, the garden is open between dawn and dusk every day. Join a gardening session on a Wednesday or Sunday afternoon, or take the kids along to playgroup on a Tuesday morning.
Beelarong Community Farm – Morningside: This sustainable farm boasts a grey water system and solar power, as well as organic, chemical-free produce. Members meet Wednesday and Sunday mornings and group tours are also available. The community farm is located on the corner of Beverley and York Streets.
Vera Street Community Garden – Toowong: Rather than individual plots, this green space encourages locals to come together to help with creek rehabilitation and growing organic vegetables for shared consumption. Working bees are held on the fourth Sunday of every month and memberships are also available.
Rochedale Community Garden – Rochedale: This garden is open to members during daylight hours, meaning you can pop in solo or with the family whenever you need to flex that green thumb. Gardening bees are held every Sunday afternoon, and workshops and social get-togethers are also held on a regular basis.
Coorparoo Community Garden – Coorparoo: Located behind the Coorparoo Uniting Church, this garden was offered to the local community back in 2009. Gardening sessions are held every Saturday afternoon and working bees are on the first Saturday of the month.
Green Corner Community Garden – Ashgrove: Located on the corner of Jubilee Terrace and Waterworks Road, this green haven acts as not only a garden space for city dwellers to work their magic, but also a gathering place for the community to connect. Keep watch on the Facebook page for Neighbourhood Days, workshops and working bees.
Yoorala Street Community Garden – The Gap: Established in 2010, this community garden is a place for locals to get their hands dirty and share their love of organic gardening. Head along on a Sunday morning for a stickybeak, a tour or to help out in the garden.
