Try your hand at brewing your own cider
Our forefathers have been garage-brewing beer for decades and now it’s up to the new generation of drinkers to push the tradition into the next phase – filling the carport with all kinds of cider-making experimentations.
We’ve felt the need to ferment things pulsating through our limbs of late, convinced by the brightly hued jars of kimchi and pickles lining market stalls and cafe counters that we, too, can master the skill at home. While it would make sense to start with a small batch of pickled onions perhaps, our fermented-food-loving hearts are set on tackling cider straight up. And luckily the good folk over at Mad Millie have our DIY desires in mind and have tossed together a helping hand dubbed the Mad Millie Cider Starter Kit.
The Millie apple garden currently uses five types of apples to form its cider, including the Amasya, Golden, Starking, Granny Smith and Galaxy, which have been squished into a natural fruit juice concentrate. The kit contains all the gadgets to turn fruit and yeast into a liquid treat, with spiced apple, pear and pear-and-strawberry varietals also available online for round two.
