One of Brisbane’s best-kept secrets is the newly revamped cocktail and tapas haunt, which is located a mere stone’s throw from Fortitude Valley.

Those who frequented Bowen Hills coffee spot Boutique Espresso may have noticed something new recently, what with a change of name and new bar taking shape in the building’s rear. The establishment’s ownership team has long desired to open a bar in the empty space behind the cafe’s kitchen, and recruited Thomas Matteucci to helm the direction of Yorks Hollow – a cosy and intimate space that is perfect for a secluded drink with friends or a lively post-work tipple. With ten years of hospitality experience, Thomas has worked in numerous cocktail bars in London, and jumped at the chance to take charge of the fledgling hotspot that focuses on quality drink and atmosphere.

Thomas has curated a cocktail list that respects the classic recipes but adds a unique twist to each by adding some of his own syrup recipes. Highlights include the Mezcalangelo, made with Don Amado mescal, fresh tangelo, lime juice and honey, The Big Smoke boasting Maker’s Mark, smoky lapsang syrup, lemon juice and a tickle of Laphroaig 10yo and The Chipmunk, which features vanilla and cardamom indused cognac, peanut butter syrup and a dash of chocolate bitters. A sizeable range of craft beers from Australia, Belgium and the US are available, as is a worldly selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle, with flavours drawn from Australia, Argentina, Italy, Spain and France. Patrons can snack on a selection of tapas and charcuterie boards, rotating often and boasting seasonal products. Yorks Hollow regularly hosts live music ranging from jazz to roots and reggae and also takes bookings for private parties and functions. The cafe is still operating throughout the week, catering to coffee cravings from 6:30 am. Head to the Stumble Guide to see the opening hours, address and contact details.
