Discover the newest dining dens at South Bank

Sometimes it feels like we’re constantly playing catch-up trying to make it around to nosh and swill at all the new dining destinations that have opened in Brisbane – along with still making time for comforting visits to old favourites. With Live Fire, The Charming Squire and a new Creole-inspired joint expected to open at South Bank in the coming months, play catch-up this weekend with our round-up of the most recent additions to this foodie precinct.

If a European getaway isn’t in your foreseeable future, treat yourself to lunch like the Italians would, making the most of Dell’Ugo Trattoria’s outdoor dining strip, soaking up some dappled rays as you devour a mouthwatering pasta and crisp glass of wine. Drop in for a sneaky long lunch this Friday or wind down at the end of the day with a carafe of aperol, a plate of bruschetta and a few friends to share in the feast.

Tomahawk Bar is the newest venue to join South Bank’s maze of dining opportunities, making it a perfect Friday night pit stop. Run by the craft beer doyens behind Tippler’s Tap in Newstead, this cosy drinking den champions the small, independent players of the craft beer scene, improving patrons’ knowledge with the melee of intriguing bottles. The bar also serves up beer-tinted nosh like hopcorn chicken and sticky stout lamb ribs.

Once you’ve lazily rolled out of bed come Saturday morning, make your way down to South Side Diner for a late breakfast. The American-esque diner serves up classic morning meals from the health-orientated half a grapefruit sprinkled with raw sugar to a hearty bagel with cream cheese and hot smoked trout or Canadian-style pancakes with streaky bacon and maple syrup.

With seven types of sangria on the menu, Sangria Bar is a venue where you could then easily while away a few hours. Take a book, order a flight of the various red and white tonics, perhaps nibble on a small plate or two and let the afternoon slip slothfully towards dusk.

Drawing focus to Eastern European cuisine, Torba Restaurant & Lounge introduces local palates to a range of traditional and contemporary takes on Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, Hungarian and Georgian fare. With the mercury dropping, now is the perfect opportunity to don your favourite parka and brave the cold snap for a warming bowl of borscht or the restaurant’s signature shashlik.

These five restaurants and bars are among the 27 dining destinations of Little Stanley Street offering locals and visitors the chance to win a month-long South Bank experience when you dine and spend $10 or more on weekdays throughout autumn.
