Nothing gets you going more than a hearty brunch on the weekends. Whether you just feel like a bowl of granola or an all-out breakfast, local haunts not far from King Street, Fortitude Valley tick all the brunch boxes. Tucked away off Ann Street, up near the Brunswick Street Mall, is Bakery Lane which is the perfect hideaway for a lazy weekend starter with friends. Check out the new hole-in-the-wall called kiosk. which serves up a mean espresso and tasty treats that promise to be from local, seasonal and sustainable produce. People love this place because of its Moubarak family charm and plus, who doesn’t love some signature cocktails in the morning? If you’re into organic staples, you have an option right next door. The Tree House is your haven for good organically focussed breakfast staples, including vegan and gluten-free, and its whimsical interior inspired by Never Land makes the food taste even better. If you wake up a tad late, head to King Arthur on Arthur Street for a moorish and healthy brunch. This cafe serves a range of savoury and sweet dishes from the classic bacon and egg burger with fennel slaw and tomato relish to heavenly dishes such as griddled flatbread with chickpeas, beans and a fried duck egg. How about something a little more exotic? Take a stroll to James Street and have a taste of Gerard’s Bistro fusion cuisine that comprises of Southern European flavours and North African spice. If you’re over bacon and eggs, try its superb black pudding with manchego custard, flamed grapes and smoked almonds. But let’s face it, sometimes you want to go somewhere with a good old all-day breakfast menu and Bowen Arrow Cafe in Bowen Hills prides itself on that. Brunch at 2:00 pm – why not? While dishes changing weekly to take advantage of seasonal produce, it still serves brunch favourites including waffles, sweet and savoury bagels, acai bowls and bacon and eggs. It caters to all dietary constraints and serves a mean coffee as well. So now all you have to think about is when you’re going to have that afternoon nap!
