The Chefs Series: where your favourite chefs grab cheap, tasty eats

In Brisbane, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to top-notch eateries with brilliant culinary minds at the helm. But where do they go when they want to grab a quick bite? As part of The Chefs Series, we asked some of the winners and runners-up of the 2015 EAT/drink Awards – sponsored by Newstead Brewing Co. – to give us a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of Brisbane’s top chefs. For the second instalment, we checked in with five chefs to find out where they go to satisfy their hunger quickly, without maxing the credit card.

Ben Russell – ARIA
“I am a big fan of Happy Boy in Spring Hill, and also Maru Korean BBQ in the city.”

Nims Zavackas – The Jam Pantry
“After school pick up on a Monday, you’ll find us having a very early, but very long dinner at Jackpot West End. We can get a wine and sprawl out with our devices doing homework or blog edits etc. We love that the food comes super swiftly and there’s absolutely no need for lipstick or conversation. The roast pork is pretty good too!”

Cordell Khoury – Beccofino
Ben’s Burgers or The Bleachers. Nothing beats a good burger and a beer on a rare night off and those guys do the best burgers in Australia. Cool music and vibe if I decide to eat in.”

Richard Ousby – Stokehouse Q
“Thank Truck it’s Thursday at Wandering Cooks. Every Thursday they turn their carpark into a food truck food court with tasty food and drink. I had a great time there with some friends not too long ago.”

John PattersonSouthside Tea Room
Satay Ria at Cannon Hill makes the best Malaysian comfort food. I think it tastes better at home in front of the TV though. Their Roti Curry is so nourishing!”
