Get your apple fix at Sutton’s Farm
They say an apple a day will keep the doctor away, made all the more appealing when you know your apples are grown locally by Queensland farmers David and Roslyn Sutton.
Located 13 km north of Stanthorpe, Sutton’s Farm is a family-run apple orchard run by David and Roslyn Sutton. The couple purchased the orchard in 1994, and have since grown the farm to include a juice factory, cidery, distillery and the Shed Café. The sprawling orchard boasts more than 30 different apple varieties, including Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Jonathan, Winesaps and Coxs Orange Pippin, as well as French cider-apple varieties for the award-winning cidery.
David hand produces all of the varietal apple juices, ciders and brandies on site, with a focus on fresh local produce and environmentally sound practices within his own orchard. Guests are encouraged to visit the farm, where you can not only sample the plethora of apple concoctions (including homemade apple pie from the Shed Café), but also pick your own tree-ripened apples from the orchard from February to June. The Suttons also opened their doors to the public for the first Sutton’s Cider Festival in May this year, with hopes to make it an annual event.
You can find Sutton’s apple juice at selected grocers, including Sourced Grocer and Jocelyn’s Provisions, or sample a cider at Newstead Brewing Co., pressed from Sutton’s Farm apples.
