Statler & Waldorf opens on Caxton Street

A dapper new gent has moved in to Caxton Street. He bears a smart beer stash, knows how to cook a killer parmy and is bringing plenty of swag to Petrie Terrace.

Thirsty punters with a case of the belly rumbles can find sustenance at Statler & Waldorf, the brand-new gastronomy pub on Caxton Street. Terracotta pots sprout bouquets of beer-battered chips, while a changing line-up of craft brews dances between the beer taps. The digs previously occupied by Stadium Bar & Grill has been given a welcome overhaul by bar master Jay Lambert, general manager Steve McDermott and chef Andrew Tolley.

The nourishment on offer will change regularly, depending on the seasons and the makers’ whims. The opening menu won’t stick around for long, but diners are crossing their fingers that favourites like the Three Little Pigs sandwich of pork belly, bacon and cantimpalo, and the homemade pappardelle with silverbeet and broccolini will remain. Produce is sourced from a farm in Maleny, while a vertical herb garden will be built in the restaurant soon. Fruit-based cocktails will also change with the harvest, so keep an eye on the blackboard menu for updates and a glass under the eagerly awaited Americano cocktail tap. Plant your drink of choice on a sun-drenched picnic table out the front, the work-in-progress beer garden out the back, or a cosy spot by the fireplace when the mercury dips.
