Sprawling across a shopfront on Oxford Street, Southern Attitude is dishing up hearty American-style fare fit for the most eager of appetites. As the big flavours and lip-smacking textures of the Deep South make their way onto Brisbane plates, this new restaurant and bar is luring in the locals thick and fast. The venue keeps the doors open for lunch five days and dinner every evening, and night owls will find the drinks flowing in the bar ’til late every night and the kitchen serving until at least 9:30 pm every weekend.

Fire up your appetite with cornbread dripping in molasses butter and smoked salt or baked chilli cheese fries with sour cream, before moving on to Southern specials, wings, hot dogs, burgers or premium cuts straight off the barbecue. Wrap your mouth around Coca Cola-glazed wings, smoked short-cut beef ribs lathered in smoky Jack Daniel’s glaze, a pulled pork slider with apple cider slaw or 10-hour braised brisket with bourbon peach glaze. Team your indulgence with sides like blackened corn or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale onion rings, and a solid line-up of sauces. Those after lighter fare can gnaw on pecan-crusted salmon or a range of gluten-free and dairy-free salads.

After all that feasting, no doubt throats will need a little soothing, so eye off the well-stocked bar for a sizeable selection of whisky, beer and whisky-based cocktails. Choose from some winners on the taps like Brooklyn Lager and Founders All Day IPA, whisky including Blanton’s Original Private Reserve and Rittenhouse Rye, and cocktails ranging from vanilla peach bellinis and sweet apple pies to lemongrass ginger juleps and classic old fashioneds.
