Sip brews in the sunshine at Southbank Beer Garden

South Bank’s Live Fire Steak Bar has been given a fresh new makeover, embracing its idyllic location and transforming into Southbank Beer Garden.

Overlooking the iconic Streets Beach with a backdrop of the Brisbane River and city skyline, Southbank Beer Garden’s location is perfectly suited to its purpose. The venue comes from hospitality veteran Bevan Bickle, who intends the beer garden to be a space where people can enjoy a long and leisurely afternoon basking in the sun, crisp beer in hand, snacking on delectable morsels. The breezy open-walled venue makes the most of its location, with wide timber balconies and a rooftop bar. The front decks are dedicated to lapping up the sunshine with a cold beer in hand, from the wide selection of craft beers available on tap.

While the menu has also been refreshed, there is still a strong emphasis on a low-and-slow meat mantra, with options including beef brisket with coffee and garlic barbecue sauce, and beef short rib with an African barbecue baste. An impressive selection of steaks is also available on the grill, as well as burgers, salads, and less-meaty mains. Those planning on grazing their way through until the sun goes down can select from nibbles such as house-smoked chicken wings, beer cheese fondue and natural or kilpatrick oysters, and if you want to get off to an early start, Southbank Beer Garden also serves breakfast, paired perfectly with a breakfast cocktail.
