Partake in coffee nerdery at new Solo Espresso

Set in a light-filled corner shop opposite the Toombul train station, Solo Espresso is a refined and cosy cafe, a welcome new sanctum for neighbourhood denizens, passing commuters and coffee enthusiasts.

Specialising in blended and single-origin hand-roasted coffee beans that change on a weekly basis, Solo Espresso is the creation of passionate owner Ken, who enjoys teaching patrons about the beans, flavours and processes that go into each cup, aiming to make each visit a diminutive education in coffee appreciation.

Tea drinkers are not ignored here, with organic fairtrade teas supplied by Melbourne-based tea company, Love Chai. The hot chocolate is made using drinking chocolate from Koko Deluxe, another Melbourne-based supplier, which sources top-grade cocoa varieties from West Africa and blends the beans with Australian cane sugar.

Amongst the nourishing morning offerings, the Corn Fritters are served with crispy bacon, poached eggs, spinach, grilled tomato and beetroot relish while, come lunchtime, the Haloumi Toastie is layered with grilled haloumi cheese, roasted pepper, olives, onion and mixed leaves.
