Slingshot brings artful cheer back to Fortitude Valley

One of Brunswick Street’s newest watering holes is enticing thirsty wanderers with a great selection of drinks and local art.

Tucked into the façade of the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts is a cosy bar and gallery that now sits in the space formerly occupied by Mana Bar. After the location became available, four friends jumped at the chance to open their own bar that also supported the local art scene, thus Slingshot was born. The Slingshot team has done away with the gaming consoles and replaced them with a stellar collection of local art, looking to showcase eye-catching works in a casual environment. The space has been fitted out with gallery-quality hangers for exhibiting work from local artists every month, with every show having an opening night before running for four weeks. The opening exhibition features the work of local artists Steve Flaco, HAHA, Carla Benzie, 1337, Matt Johnson, Luke Brook and Jay Musk. Works are available for purchase, helping to support the local creative scene.

The team behind Slingshot has taken a different approach when offering refreshments by opening up to suggestions to customers in regards to what is on offer. Slingshot will be rotating kegs often to provide a diverse experience for regular drinkers, though tap beers currently include local favourites Green Beacon and Mountain Goat, while the fridge is stocked with a neat selection of bottled varieties. Also available is a neat selection of spirits and wines, perfect for sipping while people watching through windows benches. The bar welcomes BYO food and can even arrange free delivery of local cuisine straight to the venue. Slingshot can be hired any night of the week, so those looking for a cosy inner-city party destination should see what Slingshot can offer. For more information including opening hours and contact details, head to the Stumble Guide.
