Slack’s Track Cafe imbues dining with a dose of Mount Gravatt’s history

Tucked away in a cosy space off Logan Road, Slack’s Track cafe uses a rustic decor with antique touches to bring the suburb’s history into a contemporary setting, with great food and coffee to boot.

Kylie Hawkins and Brent Farrell of 85 Miskin St opened their second cafe Slack’s Track in early 2016, opting to create a more casual and relaxed dining environment while still offering top-notch nosh and coffee. After securing the space and knocking out a few walls, the duo transformed the location into a cosy cafe with exposed brick walls and rustic finishes. The concept of the spot draws upon the rich history of the area, specifically when Logan Road was referred to as Slack’s Track, a route used by early settler William Slack. Slack’s Track Cafe incorporates vintage paraphernalia and antique items in the decoration, alongside photos from the time period of generations past.

Slack’s Track Cafe currently offers tasty morsels for all-day breakfast and lunch, whipped up fresh on site. Sumptuous breakfast offerings such as Serrano jamon, poached eggs, tomato and capsicum relish, preserved truffle and grilled three cheese on toast and flatbread with hummus, red pepper and Danish fetta are available, followed ably by lunch meals like glazed lamb shoulder, butternut pumpkin, hazelnut dukkah and Brent’s mushroom ‘ cappuccino’ with crusty bread. The following months will see Slack’s Track Cafe open on Friday and Saturday nights for dinner service, complete with an alcohol license so be sure to stop by regularly to see what’s cooking.
