Discover espresso menagerie Scotty’s Cafe at Bardon
Tucked between a hair salon and a general store is a nameless coffee shop dubbed by locals as ‘Scotty’s Cafe’ after owner and barista, Scott. Despite the hazy details – no name, no menu, no website, no opening hours – a steady stream of regulars are dropping by to get their daily cup of coffee.
The tiny locale is filled with a menagerie of objects, from old books and records (which are also for sale) to succulents growing out of teapots and a collection of old glass jars filled with dried tea leaves. Scott is an avid supporter of local artists, displaying new exhibitions in the cafe on a three-weekly basis.
Embracing a community ethos, Scotty’s Cafe sources its sweet treats from local bakery Leavain and there are plans in the midst to expand the space to include a kitchen stocked with Food Connect produce. Scotty’s Cafe brews a delicious ‘Byron Bay Fancy’ espresso, and also a rare ‘Mountain Top’ bean from Nimbin, both roasted by local company Blackstar. Enjoy a cup of quality espresso and nibble on a piece of Leavain Middle Eastern Fruit Loaf smeared with a generous layer of honey.
