Take in the flavours and aromas of Bulimba cafe Sarmic
What started as a fledgling preserves and relish business has grown into a dynamic and enticing eatery. Sarmic is now serving great eats alongside its range of jarred goods.
Sarah Coorey and Michael Hoare are the two masterminds behind Sarmic – a fresh and vibrant cafe that operates off Apollo Road in Bulimba. After spending the past three years concocting a range of delicious relishes and selling them to delis, cafes and at local markets, the duo decided to jump head first into the Bulimba brunch scene. Sarmic (the name created by joining Sarah and Michael’s names) is a bright and inviting cafe where the aromatic smells emanating from the kitchen fill the interior. Light fixtures using recycled buckets, wooden tables and shelves of jarred goods create a lived-in dining space, with art murals and open windows adding to the appeal.
The menu encompasses a range of breakfast, brunch and lunch options created and influenced by Michael’s 22 years in hospitality. Choosing to focus on his preferred niche of brunch food (our personal favourite, as well) Michael has crafted a list of dishes that are not your stock-standard cafe fare. Think decadent buttermilk hotcakes with honey-baked nectarines and ricotta, perfectly poached eggs on potato hash with carrot jam and crunchy cinnamon toast with fresh figs and raspberry cream are just some of dishes at the tip of your fork. Michael employs a simple approach to his cooking – only the best seasonal goods will be used, everything that can be made in house will be without following fleeting food trends. Expect the menu to be shaken up regularly as new ingredients and techniques are introduced. Sarmic serves Bare Bones Espresso coffee, alongside smoothies, milkshakes and juices, with a range of artisan provisions including carrot jam, eggplant and tomato kasundi and pistachio dukkah available on site and wholesale.
