Winn Lane welcomes new coffee spot Racing II

Winn Lane has a new tenant – a cosy cafe that offers tasty coffee, smoothies, desserts and food at a great price.

One of Brisbane’s hippest hubs welcomed a new coffee spot in early May when Racing II quietly opened to the public. Located in the spot formerly occupied by Skull It, Racing II offers a quick and easy alternative for commuters and workers in the area to grab a quick java fix (courtesy of Two Seasons) or a nibble on the run. Racing II is the younger sibling to The Racing Cafe, a family owned and operated locale that has catered to locals of Hendra for more than three years. Racing II’s owner Emma McCarron seized the opportunity to expand to Winn Lane, choosing to offer simple goods that satisfies with a menu curated to suit the space limitations. The space is adorned with racing-themed touches such as horseshoes, stirrups and framed images, with a casual feel that fits in smoothly with the leisurely vibe of the laneway.

Due to the limited space, Emma has refined The Racing Cafe’s menu, though remains committed to ensuring everything is either made on site or in The Racing Cafe’s own kitchen. Food offerings are seasonal, quick and inexpensive, with each of Racing II’s meals costing $12 or less. Breakfast options include a savoury mince benny, house buckwheat granola and smashed pumpkin with marinated cream fetta, while lunch morsels encompass Cajun chicken pies, nachos with grilled cheddar and Greek yoghurt and a rotating soup option. Those saddened by the departure of Skull It’s smoothie selection can rest easy known that Racing II has its own smoothie offering, while those after something sweet can indulge in dessert options such as brownie bowls, vanilla cream pies and banana splits with butterscotch sauce – be sure to take advantage of the evening service hours on Friday and Saturday nights for a late treat.
