Pavement Whispers: Volume 71 May 10

From whispers of new cafes in Trafalgar Lane to board game bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

The Priory
As the Trafalgar Lane development in Woolloongabba inches closer to completion, more details are coming to light in regards to the range of eateries that will be opening in the coming months. The latest to announce a forthcoming opening is The Priory, a new cafe from Amy and Michael Bates – founders of Pablo in New Farm. Details are still scarce on the venue’s specifics but we know that it will be offering breakfast and lunch all week and will open for dinner on weekends. Expect delicious seasonal dishes with a focus on local produce, served in a welcoming and vibrant space. The Priory will be opening in early July, and will join the likes of Lola Coffee, Ristorante La Famiglia and Ribs and Burgers.

Ribs and Burgers
Speaking of Trafalgar Lane, we can confirm that Ribs and Burgers will be opening on Thursday June 16! The burger joint will be celebrating the occasion in the same vein as its James Street location opening by offering a tonne of giveaways throughout the day. Up to 200 people will have a chance to win one free burger every week for a year – 100 people can win in a ballot before opening, while the first 100 people to line up on opening day will win as well. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for more details.

Racing II
Fortitude Valley’s dining community is never static, with new hideaways and cafes springing up constantly. After Skull It quietly closed up shop in Winn Lane, the space was quickly taken over by the team behind The Racing Cafe – delivering a fresh new cafe option to the entertainment precincts laneways. Racing II is open now, and brings a bit of sweetness to the area with a range of dessert treats on top of a selection of smoothies and inexpensive breakfast and lunch options. Java junkies will be pleased to note that Racing II pours Two Seasons coffee. Be sure to check The Weekend Edition later this week for a closer look!

Club Sosay
A new board game-themed cafe and bar is set to open on the corner of Latrobe and Given Terrace in Paddington on Saturday May 21. Club Sosay will be combining hundreds of board games with craft beer, wine and tapas in a new 70 seater venue, inspired by the iconic Canadian board game cafe Snakes and Lattes. The project is the brainchild of Debbie Seipel, who is bringing her experience as a high-powered chartered accountant to the concept alongside business partner Angela Brown. Club Sosay is set to be a great spot to power down your mobile devices and connect with other gamers in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Plans are already in motion to take this concept further abroad. Be sure to get your crew together for a few lively games once the spot opens to the public.

Stones Corner Festival
After a huge response in 2015, the Stones Corner Festival recently announced its return for 2016. On Sunday May 29, Stones Corner’s Logan Road precinct will turn into a bustling street festival, complete with craft beer, wine and cider offerings, plenty of food trucks, and a plethora of art, craft and design stalls. The World Food Markets are bringing the bites this year – roping in Carolina Kitchen, Char Baby, King of the Wings, Little Back, Vira Lata Food Truck, The Frying Piggy and more. The Stones Corner Festival will also be offering plenty of live music, with performances from Taxiride, The BadLoves, Halfway, Tyrone Noonan and Donnelle Brooks.
