Pavement Whispers: Volume 50 November 24

From whispers of hole-in-the-wall juice bars to new markets, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Skull It Juice Bar
If you’ve been checking in on Bakery Lane as it has evolved over 2015, you might have come across the charming tiki-themed drinks cart, Skull It. Owned and operated by Pixie Weyand, Skull It has been serving refreshing juices and smoothies since May and now the cool business has moved to a permanent location in Winn Lane. While the Winn Lane location will continue serving up delicious drinks, Pixie has also added a bunch of new raw, organic, gluten-free and vegan menu items. Treats include vegan sundaes, paletas (or ice pops) and fair trade organic coffee and tea. Check The Weekend Edition soon for a closer look at all the new treats available.

Uncle Ho
A new Vietnamese-style street food eatery is set to hit Brisbane in 2016. Uncle Ho is the brainchild of Anna Demirbek, an accomplished hospitality figure that has spent five years in Melbourne managing venues such as St Ali and The Botanical. Informed by Anna’s travels through Asia, Uncle Ho will offer up street food staples such as rice paper rolls, banh mi and pho plus house-brewed Bia Hoi, a popular draft beer commonly found in small Vietnamese bars. Expect Uncle Ho to open in New Farm in February.

Street Food Asia
Stones Corner residents will also be able to tuck into a mix of Asian cuisine when Street Food Asia brings its menu of fusion goodies to the area. This family run business will serve a range of dishes with flavours from Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Thai cuisines. The restaurant will open on Logan Road for lunch and dinner and will reportedly cater to gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan and halal dietary requirements.

Riverside Gardens Market
Peter Hackworth, one of Brisbane’s most successful market moguls responsible for the Green Flea Markets in West End and the Riverside Markets in the CBD, is shaking up her portfolio. On Sunday December 6 the Riverside Markets will be moving to the City Botanic Gardens to become the Riverside Gardens Market. The market will continue to take place every Sunday and will reportedly boast an injection of new food vendors, craft stalls, live music and plenty of shady spots to relax.
