Pavement Whispers: Volume 78 June 28

From whispers of new South American eats to dark beer festivals, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Prova Pizzeria
The Rusty Burrow in Stafford Heights is about to get a new neighbour, and he goes by the name of Prova Pizzeria. Friends Carlo Giliberti and Joseph Vecchio have long dreamed of paying homage to their heritage with an authentic Italian restaurant, which will come to fruition in late July when Prova Pizzeria opens. The pair have shipped in an authentic Stefano Ferrara wood-fired oven from Naples, which will be manned by their resident pizzaiolo. You’ll also find antipasto, salumi, cheese, pasta and secondi on the menu, alongside Italian beers, wine and aperitivo. Look out for more details on The Weekend Edition soon.

Petrichor & Co
A little slice of South America is headed for Racecourse Road in Hamilton, with Petrichor & Co set to open in the coming weeks. The cafe comes from Paula and David Ariza, who own Dil Campo Espresso in Kelvin Grove, and are looking to draw influence from their Colombian heritage for this new venture. The cafe will have a wholesome and earthy feel, from its homemade dishes using organic ingredients to its name, which refers to the smell of earth after rain. We’ll keep you updated closer to opening.

Weekend of Darkness
The grimmest event on the Brisbane beer calendar is back! The Scratch in Milton will be hosting its annual Weekend of Darkness festival for the fourth time on July 15–17, with its biggest, boldest and darkest line-up of beers to date. The three-night and two-day festival will see 30 offerings of ales, stouts, porters and more for beer nerds and the beer curious alike to experience. If you’re a beer demon at heart, this one is for you.

Picnic Hill
A new food truck and craft beer event has been announced for Brisbane’s north, with Picnic Hill launching in Redcliffe on July 8. The family-friendly twilight event will feature tasty morsels from the likes of King Of The Wings, The Bone Lorry, Ruby the Little Red Ice Cream VanVira Lata Food Truck and more, as well as craft beer, lawn games and live acoustic tunes. Entry is a gold coin donation, which will go to Redcliffe Youth Service.
