Padre bar opens on Woolloongabba’s Stanley Street
Let this endearing new watering hole take you under its wing and pour you a beer.
Hurtle along Stanley Street in Woolloongabba and you’d be forgiven for missing this charming new bar, squeezed between shopfronts in the shell of a former Goan restaurant. Padre may be a narrow slip of a space but the laidback locale certainly has big dreams and a big heart. Three mates have combined their talents and passion for a pint, naming the bar in honour of the fact they all became fathers at the nearby Mater Mothers’ Hospital within the last seven months.
The three lads bring experience from running The Downtown Honey Co. and Vespa Pizza, filling the new venue with a relaxed vibe, easy chat and genuine appreciation for a quality tipple. They encourage patrons to forget the list and request any cocktail they fancy, while also offering a small but interesting collection of wines. The focus here, however, is on the beer, with the likes of Estrella, 4 Pines, Holgate and Monteith’s currently available on tap. More spouts are expected to sprout in the coming months, and beers will change often to keep things interesting for the regulars.
While currently serving bar nibbles along the lines of salted nuts, McClure’s Pickles and potato chips, the venue will offer a more substantial food menu within the coming weeks. Gourmet pub grub featuring slow-cooked meats will be available each evening, while the bar will also extend its hours to open from midday Friday and Saturday.
Crook your neck towards the wallpapered right side of the bar and you’ll notice a set of stairs tucked beside the piano. While these currently lead to a basement in the midst of renovations, within the next three months this secret hideout should be ready to play host to private functions, live music and stand-up comedy events.
