Oriental Yum Cha Restaurant, Fortitude Valley

Oriental Yum Cha Restaurant opens in Fortitude Valley

When the words ‘yum cha’ flitter through our mind, images of 1980s vinyl chairs, carpeted floors and stainless-steel trolleys sporting baskets of steaming buns tend to materialise. But in the latest venture from Jacky Choi of Sunnybank and Aspley Oriental, yum cha is being served in sleek new surrounds.

Oriental Yum Cha Restaurant opened in Fortitude Valley this week, bringing the Chinese royalty and yum cha fanatics of Brisbane out to play, queuing up from lunch to dinner to sample the new menu. Set in the HQ building where Siana used to call home, Oriental is a split-level restaurant serving yum cha and a la carte offerings.

Seafood, meats and vegetarian fillings come wrapped in twist-topped dumpling parcels, while the a la carte menu offers up the likes of Malacca Coconut Chicken, Peking Duck Pancakes, Mongolian Lamb and Singapore Chilli Prawns. If you haven’t yet been privy to art of quickly rolled out trolleys of delicious lacey dumplings and sticky buns, Oriental Yum Cha is a fitting spot to make such an acquaintance.
