Mrs Luu’s Vietnamese Canteen opens in Milton
The owners of West End icon Trang restaurant have packed up from their Hardgrave Road locale and opened shop on Railway Terrace in Milton. An area brimming with office workers during the week, Milton has warmly welcomed Mrs Luu’s Vietnamese Canteen to the mix.
Leaving the Chinese half of the Trang menu behind, Owners John, Frankie and Sylvia have given focus to a few key Vietnamese dishes on the Mrs Luu’s menu. The Goi Cuon rice paper rolls see a choice of six fillings, while the Com bowl of jasmine rice, mesculin and pickled vegetables comes with steak, chicken or pork.
The very popular Banh Mi offers an impressive selection of fillings, including grilled marinated flank steak, sweet glazed chicken fillet, soy and shallot grilled pork chop and omelette with caramelised onions for the vegos. But the combination catching everyone’s eye is dubbed Three Little Piggies – slices of Vietnamese porchetta and ham sitting alongside barbecue pork, with homemade pate and mayonnaise added to the mix. The Bun (vermicelli salads) that Trang executed so well comes with lemongrass beef, pork mince and taro spring rolls or fried tofu with oyster sauce.
The space is diner-minimalist, with the option to takeaway or eat in. A mustard feature wall takes pride of place, sporting a cartoon illustration of the three owners by graphic designer Imelda Moss. Mrs Luu’s Vietenamese is cash only, though a handy ATM is stationed just inside the door should you forget your paper money.
