Mrs Luu’s Vietnamese Canteen, Bowen Hills

Milton institution Mrs Luu’s Vietnamese Canteen spread the love to the northside, opening a second branch in Bowen Hills in February of 2014.

Lunch seekers descend upon the original Mrs Luu’s Vietnamese Canteen in Milton’s Railway Terrace with steadfast devotion each weekday – and this Bowen Hills branch has been every bit as popular. The pans dance on the flames and the umbrellas flutter in the Brisbane breeze, luring in local workers and residents for their share of fast and fresh lunchtime goodness.

Mrs Luu’s Vietnamese Canteen in Bowen Hills offers the same basic menu that has gained a cult following in Milton, but regulars will have to keep patient for the popular daily specials as the team adjusts to jostling about in the new, smaller kitchen. Mrs Luu’s signature banh mi baguette has made the leap to the Bowen Hills branch, offering a zesty combination of house-made mayonnaise, pate, soy, daikon, pickled carrots, cucumber, fresh coriander and your choice of filling like sweet glazed chicken fillet, pan-fried tofu or the 3 Little Piggies with porchetta, barbecue pork and ham. Generous rice bowls, rice noodle salads and rice paper rolls all find a place on the Bowen Hills menu, while snacks like dim sims, spring rolls and fried wontons are also available. Team your home-style lunch pack with a Vietnamese iced coffee, coconut water or homemade lemonade, and find a spot under the umbrellas or take away.

You have to be quick as once they sell out of their glorious fresh goodness every day, they shut up shop and get ready for a new day. For further details, head to our Stumble Guide.
