Ease your regrets at Morning After in West End

We’ve all been there. You’re out, having the night of your life, and everything seems just grand. But then the morning after … that’s another story. The new cafe on the block in West End is here to soften the blow, making the next day something to look forward to, rather than your time to curl up in a pit of despair.

The aptly named Morning After is the brainchild of Yianni Passaris, built on the mantra to ‘enjoy the night before, indulge the morning after’. Sitting on the corner of Cambridge and Vulture Streets, the cafe is the latest addition to The Glass Factory mixed-used development. Morning After has been in the works for some time now, with Yianni consulting closely with his mum Soula and designer Alexander Lotersztain of derlot to create a space that is bright and welcoming in all aspects, from the fit-out to the staff and food offering. Alexander’s distinct design aesthetic is evident throughout the refreshing space, with light from wide open windows casting shadows over clean white and timber furnishings, brass finishes and tufts of greenery sprouting from pots and hanging from the ceiling. These sleek elements are contrasted by astroturf-looking felt bench seats and bar stools, and a petite neon sign on the back wall declaring the cafe’s moniker.

The Morning After menu is broken into two main sections – morning, with all-day breakfast options, and after, lunch from 11:30 am until 3:00 pm. If you’ve taken it easy the night before, start the morning fresh with a choice like The Unrefined granola, yoghurt, rosewater jelly, apple and Bee One Third honey. Or, for those days when you can’t make it outside without sunglasses and a Berocca, opt for the MaMuffin – sausage, egg, American cheese and spiced tomato relish on an English muffin, with the essential side of hash brown. Come lunchtime, tempt your tastebuds with Huon salmon fillet, miso glaze, seaweed, kale, daikon, sesame and soy, or tuck in to slow-roasted lamb shoulder salad with charred radicchio, fennel, friarielli, confit shallots, sherry vinegar and pecorino romano. And on Sundays Morning After serves up traditional yiros to cure any end-of-weekend woes.

Morning After also takes its coffee seriously, pouring Uncle Joe’s and 5 Senses as espresso, batch brew and pour over. You can also select from a range of teas, cold drinks and elixirs, as well as a list of wine, beer, cider and spirits – after all, hair of the dog is the best cure, right?
