Monk & Grind cafe opens in Fortitude Valley
Filling the ground floor of the historic Plumridge House on Barry Parade, Monk & Grind cafe and lounge offers all-day breakfast and lunch to a previously neglected pocket of Fortitude Valley.
At 7:00 am every weekday morning, the coffee window of Monk & Grind cafe and lounge springs open as the grinders work their way through Di Bella Coffee beans and locals grab breakfast dishes to go. Owner Duncan Allan has carried the cafe-meets-business concept from his Niche Event Spaces project in Stones Corner, offering a catered meeting room, boardroom and business lounge in the new Fortitude Valley space. Individual tables are kitted out with powerpoints as well as free WiFi, enabling students and workers to merrily tap away on their laptops while enjoying the cafe’s food and drink offerings. The rear lounge area boasts cosy armchairs for a long day in the external office, while an old church pew and dining tables fill the entrance, and outdoor seating is due to arrive soon.
Monk & Grind serves all-day breakfast and lunch, as well as an online ordering service for time-pressed workers. Start the day with a simple slice of fruit loaf and vanilla butter, or tuck in to a hearty plate of house-made beans with chorizo, fried egg and toasted sourdough. Lunch options cover a variety of fresh salads and sandwiches, such as the rare beef salad with wild mushrooms, asparagus, balsamic and truffle oil, and the house specialty of pulled pork with smoky barbecue sauce and slaw, nestled on a warm ciabatta roll.
