Traditional Indonesian cuisine at Clayfield’s Mamaku

A cosy corner location on Sandgate Road has been converted into a hub of flavoursome traditional Indonesian cuisine, owned and operated by experienced Indonesian cooks.

After running a successful Indonesian eatery in West End for six years, Mie Mie decided to pull up stumps and bring her brand of home cooking to the north side of town. Makanan on Hardgrave Road has long been a successful source for delicious food in West End under Mie Mie’s guiding hand, and now she has gone for something a bit more concise for her new venture Mamaku. The name Mamaku means mother, and Mie Mie has drawn inspiration from her mother’s recipes and her heritage from Indonesia, China, Hakka and Timor. Mamaku is a clean and welcoming space with crisp white walls and furnishings, located a stone’s throw from Clayfield College on Sandgate Road.

Mie Mie has brought her own flair to the menu offering, blending classic recipes with some new ingredients. Small dishes include pork and prawn ball soup, fried meatballs, chicken wings and vegetable stacks. The extensive list of mains includes dishes such as slow-cooked chicken rendang curry, ikan belado (whole chilli fish), hakk braised pork, garlic prawns and chicken or lamb satay. Noodle dishes such as laksa and mie goreng are available along with traditional nasi goreng and roti. All dishes are available dine in and takeaway, with BYO also welcome. The coming months will see Mamaku introduce lunch specials and Indonesian cakes and coffee in the mornings. For contact details and opening hours, head to the Stumble Guide.

The Stumble Guide is our comprehensive Brisbane dining guide with more than 2400 places to eat, drink, shop and play.
