No doubt you’ve eyeballed the venue on a stroll through the city or perched at the bar on a Friday afternoon, but the refurbished Jimmy’s on the Mall is nothing like you remember it. The Queen Street Mall’s oldest restaurant has undergone major renovations over the past three months, shuffling up to the space previously occupied by its Mantle Group sibling, Cafe East, and reaching skywards with the addition of an upper deck. The restaurant was the first to open when the Queen Street Mall was originally developed back in 1982, and it has continued to nourish students, workers and late-night revellers with 24-hour service, seven days a week for more than three decades.

The fresh-faced new venue has retained an open feel, with no side walls or doors, and easy access from both sides of the pedestrian strip. Brass finishings meet white marble tables and custom-built teak chairs, while fairy-lit green living walls bookend the building beautifully. Now offering two restaurants and two bars over two levels, the lower deck focuses on restaurant meals while the upper deck leans towards bar-food offerings. Two retractable roofs take advantage of Brisbane’s idyllic weather, inviting guests to gobble their dinner under the stars and enjoy a spot of people-watching in the mall.

Hungry punters can peer in through the open kitchen on ground level to spy an active wok station and chefs whipping up brand-new breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, plus supper in between. Start your day with Byron Bay macadamia muesli, progress to grilled barramundi or meaty beef short ribs with whisky barbecue sauce on the lower deck, or grab a slice of porcini and truffle pesto pizza on the upper deck.
