Lovers of Gramercy Coffee who have ever struggled to find a seat in the pint-sized space will be thanking the caffeine gods for bringing them nearby neighbour Irving Place last week. With the same team of coffee devotees behind the new cafe, city workers in need of a weekday caffeine hit are certainly spoilt for choice. The house blend comes courtesy of Surry Hills roastery Reuben Hills, while a selection of single origins are available as espresso or filter. The line-up of brews will change often, with current offerings roasted by heart in Portland, Proud Mary in Melbourne and Mecca in Sydney. Take your coffee with Cooloola pasteurised-only jersey milk, house-made almond milk or Zymil.

Seasonal ingredients are sourced from local growers and producers, such as The Egg Man, Meat at Billy’s, Crust & Co. Artisan Baking and Brisbane Produce Market. Start the day with sourdough slathered in Pepe Saya butter and house-made preserve, toasted muesli with all the trimmings or a chia seed pudding accompanied by honeycomb and fresh fruit. If your belly is calling for a little more substance, chow down on the popular bubble and squeak featuring pulled silverside, a fried egg, tomato relish and sourdough, a baguette packed with maple-baked pork and brussel sprout and apple slaw, or gin-cured salmon with asparagus, a poached egg, herbed ricotta and carrot jam. Sultry Brisbane days will call for an iced coffee, cold-pressed juice or house soda of cascara, ginger or passionfruit. Bags of specialty coffee beans, souvenir mugs and coffee-drinking paraphernalia are all also available to take home, and you can entreat the friendly staff to share their tips at the dedicated pour over filter area.
