Hop & Pickle brings pub gastronomy to South Bank

South Bank’s Little Stanley Street has been partially hidden behind the walls of construction lately, but week by week, its new additions are starting to reveal themselves. The latest venue to join the strip is Hop & Pickle, taking over the spot once occupied by Beastie Burgers.

Under the mantra ‘great food, great drinks, great service’, Hop & Pickle is bringing pub gastronomy to Little Stanley Street. The venue has been opened by ex-Beastie Burgers owner Peter Carter and business partner Neal Orpin, who aspire to introduce patrons to ‘hop culture’, creating a playful, fun and relaxed environment. The previous space has been completely transformed, with the addition of a new undercover deck complete with astroturf and tufts of greenery. The open-walled space lends itself to long afternoons perfect for just hanging out over a pint of beer or a good old-fashioned pub-style meal.

Hop & Pickle’s menu holds true to its pub gastronomy promise with a broad range of finger-licking snacks to accompany your frosty glass, including deep-fried spicy pickles with house sauce, ham-hock croquettes with wholegrain aioli and chargrilled corn with spiced butter. For something slightly larger, you can choose from share-style plates such as Asian-glazed pork belly with cucumber relish, mini dagwood dogs or braised octopus with romesco sauce. From Monday to Friday select from the daily changing mains on the chalkboard, which could be anything that you would expect from a good pub. Saturdays also change each week, paying homage to pub classics from around the world – think Atlantic cod with crinkle-cut fries and homemade coleslaw – and Sundays see a different roast with all the trimmings served up each week.
