Hidden drinking dens at Heya Bar in Fortitude Valley

Pan-Asian street food and cracking cocktails have found a new home at Heya Bar on Brunswick Street.

Step inside Fortitude Valley’s latest addition to discover a tangle of secret dive bars and some incredibly creative street chow. From cheeseburger spring rolls to pork tonkatsu dogs, the kitchen crew certainly know how to put their own unique stamp on old favourites. Inspired by the markets of Southeast Asia and the alleyways of the Golden Gai in Shinjuku, Heya Bar comes to you from the folks behind The Gresham Bar, Popolo and Libertine. Aside from the intriguing food and wine lists, you’ll also find live music, pool tables and pinball machines. Join the Found In Translation live gig series in Yama Bar every Thursday night to catch emerging local acts, followed by special industry Guest Selectors sharing their guilty pleasures, or shake that tush to the Heya house band every Friday evening.

Four small specialty bars offer up a smorgasbord of varying drinks and nibbles, meaning you can stick to what you love or treat your tastebuds to a mix. Bar 80s brings beers from as close as Byron to as far away as the USA, as well as themed cocktails like the Golden Gai Time of Kraken spiced rum, almond, chocolate and 5 Spice cream, and the Kaiju Attack of Damiana sake, melon, lemon and the house hard ginger beer. Bar Lonely specialises in whisky from around the globe, while Kohaku Bar shakes up cocktails like the Yojimbo Did It First featuring the Heya house lager with Sriracha and 5 Spice, and Yama Bar will sate the beer lovers with brews like Sun Sun Organic Ale, Sapporo and Tokyo Black. The full Street Eats food menu is available in most bars from 5:00–10:00 pm, with a more condensed list popping up from 10:00 pm to late. Team your tipple with grub like hickory-smoked edamame, sticky pork ribs, crab and corn chiko rolls, and mushroom and bacon gyoza.
