Snap up this season’s achacha, the new fruit on the block from Healthy Lifestyle Fruit and Veg

The prized tropical fruit achacha, known as the dancing fruit (just remove the first ‘a’ and you are left with chacha), has been cultivated for many years at the foot of the Andes in the Amazon Basin of Bolivia. Relatively new to our shores, it was only 13 years ago that an agreement was reached with the Bolivian Government for the first planation to be established here in Queensland. With its sweet, tangy and refreshing taste, achacha adds a new dimension to your fruit bowl, salads and much more.

Healthy Lifestyle Fruit and Veg at Rocklea’s Brisbane Marketplace and the Eagle Farm Markets has just got its first batch of this season’s achacha, which will be available for about 6 weeks. Drop on by the Healthy Lifestyle Fruit and Veg stall where there is an abundance of produce available, from all the standard summer stone fruits to the more exotic pomegranate, kale and asparagus. If there is a fruit or vegetable you would like to source, then let the guys at Healthy Lifestyle Fruit and Veg know, as they can source it for you.

From this weekend achacha will be sitting pretty on the Rocklea stall’s tables waiting to be snapped up. With an exotic appeal similar to the longan, rambutan and lychee, achacha is very similar to its cousin the mangosteen but with less than half of the sugar content, which gives it a unique tanginess.

If you are looking for ideas on what to do with this fruit whose name translates as ‘honey kiss’, there are numerous recipes out there to inspire you. Try the achacha thirst quencher, achacha and pomegranate crema with pistachio praline or green mango salad with achacha dressing.
