Moose & Gibson opens Habitat Restaurant & Bar in West End
New West End beauty Habitat Restaurant & Bar combines an outdoor craft-beer bar with a cosy restaurant and cafe to sate all manner of cravings.
The coffee-loving dream team behind Tarragindi’s Leaf Espresso Bar and Woolloongabba’s Moose & Gibson has expanded its local offering to include a sleek new restaurant and bar in West End. As the third Brisbane baby for rugby legend Scott Higginbotham and business partner Malcolm Watts, Habitat Restaurant & Bar has taken the pair’s knack for crafting striking interiors and combined it with executive chef Luke Tye’s accessible menu to offer a warm and welcoming retreat from morning to night seven days a week.
Take an unexpected turn off Melbourne Street and you’ll find Habitat perched upon the corner of Boundary and Edmondstone in all its wood-panelled and glass-walled glory. An outdoor courtyard offers fresh air and craft beer on tap, while inside you’ll find cosy booths, high benches and an elevated coffee nook. Parts of a former bridge have been upcycled into table fittings and an external bar, while the main bar inside features a maze of artistic tunnels formed by a living ant farm.
The menu harbours a focus on local Queensland produce, with a leaning towards organic and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Still in the early stages of tweaking, the edible offerings will continue to evolve over time, with plans for weekly market specials and accompanying take-home recipe cards for particularly enamoured guests. Start your day with a breakfast of creamy soy forest mushrooms on toast or potato-and-dill croquettes, and perhaps a cup of Two Seasons single-origin coffee or a mighty protein shake. Dinnertime edibles range from share plates of fresh prawns with parsley chips to freshly shucked oysters with blood orange tea jelly, or heartier mains of rare-roasted kangaroo fillet, roasted duck breast and slow-cooked Wagyu beef tongue and cheek. Share a group serve of sangria with friends, snaffle a warm honey mead hot toddy or classic mint julep all for yourself, or choose from the exclusive on-premises-only wine list.
