Greaser basement bar opens in Fortitude Valley
Pledge your commitment by following the twists and turns to reach the bowels of Fortitude Valley’s new basement bar and you’ll be rewarded with an American-style speakeasy serving whisky-based cocktails and comfort food.
Finding the ominous red door is only half the challenge to entering Fortitude Valley’s newest drinking establishment, Greaser. Tucked just off the Wickham-Brunswick Street T-section, the dive bar takes guests on a journey through a hidden alley, past a smoking lounge and into the bustling kitchen before reaching your underground-bar destination. Setting up camp in the basement of a historic building, Greaser nods to the grungy speakeasies of New York City’s East Village with exposed brick walls, dim lighting and sprawling graffiti. A maze of alcoves reveals walls studded with vintage photos, plush booths and stools upholstered in repurposed jeans.
American-inspired pub grub is available from 6:00 pm to late Wednesdays through to Sundays, offering belly liners in the form of crinkle-cut chips, grilled Angus beef cheeseburgers and hot dogs layered with pickled jalapeño, yellow mustard, mayonnaise and cheese floss. Heat-seekers can gnaw on the bar’s southern fried chicken pieces, which have been marinated in buttermilk and are served with red-eye gravy and smoked chipotle mayonnaise. Wash the feast down with a selection of American and local craft beers or harder drinks like a whisky Pickleback or Pony Boy Paloma of tequila, lime juice and grapefruit soda.
