Food Connect throws tenth birthday street party

Brisbane’s beloved social enterprise Food Connect is celebrating an incredible milestone this year, marking ten years of nourishing locals and fighting for a fairer food system.

It may take just one voice to shake up the status quo, but when a team of like-minded souls come together, the wheels of change roll a whole lot faster. The united efforts of the founders, farmers, helpers and consumers behind Food Connect is a perfect example, with the organisation celebrating ten years of operation this year. It may have hit the occasional bump along the road, but the social enterprise has come a long way since it was first created a decade ago. Next Friday February 27 will see the social enterprise celebrating the anniversary by honouring all those who have contributed, with a community street party at the Food Connect homestead in Salisbury.

Joel Salatin, the man named the ‘World Number 1 Farmer’ by TIME magazine, will be joining the party on his Australian RegenAg tour to talk food and ethics with ABC Gardening Australia’s Costa Georgiadis, while a line-up of other inspiring guests will be conducting ticketed speaking sessions inside the homestead. Join the free fun with food trivia, apple bobbing and fruit box relays buzzing through the street, before pausing at the Community Conversation & Collaboration Tent to be inspired and educated. Slow Food Brisbane will be hosting a Conscious Consumption street-food party, with a chef cook-off between celebrity chef Matt Golinski, QAGOMA executive chef Josue Lopez and Taste Trekkers’ Sally Lynch. If you’ve worked up an appetite, take your pick from local food vendors like Sprout Artisan Bakery, YummBox and GG Gourmet who will be using Food Connect farmers’ produce to create some delicious dishes. Whet your whistle with a brew from Stone & Wood’s caravan Bonnie or a glass of elixir from Buchi Kombucha, before shaking it to local entertainers like Paddy McHugh, The Floyd Family Breakdown and more.

Join the party from 3:00–10:00 pm for a gold coin donation. Find more information on the website and Facebook, and buy tickets to speaking sessions online.
