The bar now inhabits a space that formerly existed as an unused rooftop. Seeing potential in the desolate concrete slab, building owner Peter Biedak decided to bring his plans for an intimate rooftop bar to fruition late last year. After a lengthy six-month construction process, Elixir finally opened to the public on Saturday afternoon, revealing an open space swathed in vertical gardens and a marble-topped bar stocked with an imposing selection of liquor.

On sunny afternoons, golden light streams onto the daybeds and foliage dotted about the bar. As daylight fades, fairylights take over from the sun, illuminating the rooftop with a gentle glow. Should grey clouds begin to linger overhead, there’s a retractable roof to keep the party dry.

The establishment sports an extensive drinks list, with local craft beers, cider and cocktails all available, as well as selection of grazing plates. Food isn’t Elixir’s main focus, but plates of marinated olives and warm salads of spiced lamb and brussels sprouts will fend off hunger as you sip one of the bar’s signature fresh market martinis, which are made from the juice of seasonal fruits.
