Coppa Spuntino opens in Brisbane City

The masterminds behind Public and Red Hook have struck again, opening Coppa Spuntino, a new boutique pizzeria and charcuterie in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD.

Brisbane’s laneways are experiencing a culinary renaissance of sorts, with the arrival of several new venues over the past year. The latest in this line of intimate eateries is Coppa Spuntino, an Italian spuntino and wine bar. Dynamic duo Bonnie Shearston and Tom Sanceau of Red Hook and Public have opened Coppa Spuntino behind Red Hook on Creek Street, which is fast becoming a popular destination for the inner-city night crawlers.

Spuntino is an Italian word literally translating ‘snack’, but this venue is much more than a simple pit stop. The breakfast menu will feature traditional Australian favourites with an Italian spin, while the lunch menu includes sit down and takeaway options – take a seat and enjoy a wood-fired pizzetta at the bar or grab a panini and salad to go. On the spuntino front, patrons can pick from a range of bites including spatchcock, marinated octopus, pork meatballs and smoked ham hock terrines. Coppa’s night-time menu features a range of small plates and charcuteries ranging from cured meats to gourmet cheeses. The beverage selection is expansive, focusing on Italian wines and Italian-Australian varieties, as well as five kinds of beer. Coppa Spuntino’s cocktail list is varied and maintains the Italian vibe alongside a selection of aperitifs and nine (yes, nine) kinds of Negroni, with the menu taking you on the journey of the Negroni, from its inception to modern-day twists.

Coppa’s interior is inviting and warm. Bar seating will place you right near the pizza oven, allowing you to see your meal being prepared right before your eyes. The outdoor alfresco dining area features lounge seating underneath ample umbrella coverage, and Bonnie and Tom have committed themselves to making Coppa Spuntino an enjoyable dining destination. With authentic Italian food, wine and atmosphere aplenty, you will feel like you have escaped the humdrum hustle of Brisbane’s business district for the lively and exciting streets of Rome.
