Gobble burgers and beer at Queensland’s first Chur Burger

It’s gained a cult following in venues across Sydney and now Brisbane has been granted the Sunshine State’s very first Chur Burger. Cheers to a summer of beer and burger indulgences in a Fortitude Valley laneway.

Perhaps you’ve heard the tale. An award-winning chef, a two-hat restaurant in Sydney and a burger shack out the back. Cue a first, small step towards more casual dining by rebranding famed restaurant Assiette as Albion Street Kitchen, before a fire in the venue called for a complete refurbishment. Allowing his customers’ fondness for $10 gourmet burgers to steer the way, owner-chef Warren Turnbull gave in to the Chur Burger phenomenon, serving vanilla shakes and beer alongside his quality street nosh. After the opening of three Chur Burger outlets across Sydney, Warren has now brought the brand to Brisbane, opening on the ground floor of the TRYP Hotel in Fortitude Valley.

Open from 7:00 am every morning and ’til midnight Friday and Saturday nights, Chur Burger invites locals to start the day with a range of breakfast offerings like a fried doughnut with sweet berry hash or the spiced beef chimichanga with avocado and lime sour cream. Hangovers will be cured by the house breakfast burger, or late risers can kick back in the laneway with snacks such as a hoisin brisket taco or barbecue chicken wings with blue cheese sauce.

Of course, the burgers are the feature of the food menu, with the whole farmyard coming to the table as fillings encompass lamb, beef, pork, chicken and fish, plus a spiced chickpea pattie for the vegetarians. Burger standouts include the crispy pork belly with chilli caramel, slaw and aioli, and lamb with fetta, red onion, mint sauce and aioli, while mains include jerk chicken, blackened salmon and grilled sirloin. If you’ve managed to locate your extra dessert stomach, fill the cavity with a smashed pavlova plus strawberries and cream. Choose from a selection of beer, cider and wine, as well as signature cocktails. Continue through the Chur Burger laneway and up the lift and you’ll also discover the newly opened Up on Constance rooftop bar open from 5:00 pm every night.
