Local restaurants get lavish for Christmas Day

Christmas lunch – it’s the one meal of the year you want to make sure you wear your elastic-waisted pants for. From the seafood to the lashings of sides and desserts smothered in cream and custard, Christmas lunch rarely fails to please, unless you are the one relegated to the kitchen to prepare it. So this year, either drag everyone into the kitchen to lend a hand, or head out for a feast instead. These locales are planning lavish festive menus for Christmas Day that will put even your most forgiving pants to the test.

Vintaged Bar + Grill: Christmas Day will see Vintaged Bar + Grill at the Hilton open for lunch and dinner. The four-course lunch menu and three-course dinner menu present creative takes on traditional favourites of crab, fish, turkey and ham.

Stamford Plaza: Stamford Plaza is putting on its famed Christmas buffets again this year. Stuff yourself silly at the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, which have all the traditional trimmings.

The Euro: After opening for Christmas for the first time last year, The Euro has decided to make Christmas lunch a tradition. This year will see the restaurant open for two sittings, offering a four-course set menu, as well as a three-course menu for the younger members of your party.

Cove Bar + Dining: Kick back by the river and enjoy a lazy Christmas lunch at River Quay’s Cove Bar + Dining, where poached Atlantic salmon and turkey wrapped in prosciutto are on the menu.

Bacchus: A meal at Bacchus is always a lavish affair, and Christmas lunch is no exception. This year the chefs are preparing a seven-course degustation for Christmas, and guests will be greeted with a glass of Dom Pérignon.

Lutèce Bistro & Wine Bar: The newly opened French restaurant is open for Christmas lunch and dinner. The popular spanner crab lasagne makes an appearance on the menu, along with traditional French fare and Christmas pudding served with macadamia ice-cream and amaretto sauce.

Motion Bar & Grill: Housed in the Marriott Hotel, Motion Bar & Grill is serving a buffet breakfast as well as a lavish six-course lunch and dinner. Santa will also be popping by for lunch.

Bistro Allure: Pullman’s resident restaurant will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, kicking off the day with eggnog and homemade brioche and then serving three-course meals for lunch and dinner.

Treasury Casino & Hotel: Lunch at the restaurants within the Treasury is an opulent affair, complete with carollers and a visit from Santa. Depending on whether you want to feast on a seafood buffet or sit down for a four-course menu, there are four lunch options on offer.

Gusto da Gianni, Belvedere Bar & Grill and Restaurant Manx have all planned special three-course lunch menus, with dishes such as maple-glazed belly of Berkshire pork, rolled pork belly with ham and pistachios, and braised turkey leg with cranberry compote planned respectively for each of the Portside Wharf restaurants. If you simply want to skip the cooking of dessert this year, Deer Sir is taking orders for sweets and will be open from 10:00 am on Christmas Day for collections.

Bavarian Bier Cafe: You’ll be cheering Frohe Weihnachten at Bavarian Bier Cafe, which is open for lunch and biers. Savour cured salmon gravlax, turkey schnitzel and plum pudding, washed down with a stein of bier, of course.

Esca Bar + Bistro: Kangaroo Point dwellers can mosey to Esca Bar + Bistro, where ham hock terrine will be followed by barramundi with bacon and mussel chowder, and dark chocolate parfait.

Morgans Seafood Restaurant: Seafood lovers can head north to Morgans Seafood Restaurant, which has a menu of locally caught prawns, sand crab and fresh oysters, as well as traditional servings of turkey, baked ham and pudding with brandy custard.

Colle Rosso: This Italian locale is serving an authentic Italian lunch finished with panettone and homemade fruit tart. Guests can play tombola (Italian bingo) for a chance to win an Italian Christmas hamper.
