Escape the heat Mumbai style at Chaat Hut

Many associate Indian food with colourful curries, but the Southern-Asian cuisine extends much further than that.

Prav Hemmadi from Chaat Hut is determined to show Brisbane more of the street food from the sidewalk stalls and street carts that fill his childhood memories of growing up in Mumbai. Chaat Hut is a regular at the Friday night Love Your Local Markets that circulate throughout Hawthorne, Morningside, Norman Park and Cannon Hill.

Try Chaat Hut’s dahi puri, which consists of seven puffed puris stuffed with potato, tomato, onion, Chaat Hut’s chutneys, flakes of sev and yoghurt, topped with chilli powder, a special masala blend and coriander. Or maybe the bhel puri, which is a dish of puffed rice, tomato, potato, onion, Chaat Hut’s chutney, flakes of sev, crushed puris and coriander. Gluten-free and vegan-friendly options are available on some dishes too. Praz is currently working on a winter menu with items like vada pav, onion pakoras and mulugs (South-Indian banana fritters).

Tasting sessions start this weekend, and the new menu will be available in May/June so drop on by and see Prav or his business partner Will Fein at the Love Your Local Markets.
