The round-up: Brisbane’s ten best restaurants as voted by you

The past 16 months has seen Brisbane's restaurant scene boom in terms of its profile and standing amongst Australia's major cities. New restaurants opened, and several old favourites underwent significant shake-ups. This meant that the stage was set for the most anticipated EAT/drink Awards in recent memory, and our readers didn't disappoint. The 2019 EAT/drink Awards were some of the most hotly contested in the lifespan of the competition, and our marquee categories naturally drew a lot of attention. After an entire month of voting, the winners and runner-up venues have been announced, but there were many other fine establishments that still received an overwhelming amount of votes. This year we have a brilliant crop of culinary destinations comprising the upper echelon of Brisbane's Best Restaurant vote getters, so we figured we’d acknowledge the cream of the crop and list the ten… more

Phat Boy brings tantalising Thai feasts to Brisbane Quarter

Alyssa Phadungkiat believes that we all have a cheeky child within us, one that emboldens us when we indulge. Debating going back for one more scoop, slice or mouthful? “Do it,” says the child. “It will be worth it,” they assure us. It’s this unseen but ever-present force within that has inspired Alyssa’s latest concept Phat Boy at Brisbane Quarter. Further bolstering her portfolio of Thai eateries, Phat Boy sees Alyssa and her team pushing the cuisine further forward, taking classic Thai flavours and elevating them to greater mouth-watering heights. Phat Boy officially opens today, Monday July 15, so if you’re looking for a spot to treat yourself (and the little greedy-guts within) to some guilt-free feasting, look for Phat Boy’s newly illuminated sign. more

From the cellar to the rooftop – Le Bon Bar reinvigorates a French icon

Since first opening its doors in 2008, C’est Bon has remained one of the most beloved members of Brisbane’s French-food scene. As with any venue that attains longevity, C’est Bon has grown and evolved through several iterations. From original owner Michel Bonnet’s traditional fare to C’est Bon’s current direction under the stewardship of Celine Damour and head chef Peter Roelfes, the venue has remained a Woolloongabba favourite, and some newly completed renovations are looking to maintain the trend. Last week saw the unveiling of Le Bon Bar, C’est Bon’s chic sibling that is bringing with it new menus, a private cellar and dining space, an impressive garden terrace, and rooftop lounge boasting phenomenal views. more

Foresters Restaurant and Bar brings modern gastropub fare to Fortitude Valley

The St Pauls Terrace-end of Brunswick Street has long been the forgotten half of Fortitude Valley's entertainment precinct – a strip lingering in the shadow cast by the action-packed hub of Brunswick Street Mall. Recent years have seen a shift in interest back towards the nexus of Brunswick and Alfred Street, and the hospitality arm of GURNER's luxury development FV is set to mark the start of a new era. Spearheading this paradigm shift is the opening of Foresters Restaurant and Bar – the anchor tenant of FV's food and beverage precinct that is opening today, Thursday July 4. Housed within a stunning heritage-listed structure, Foresters is set to deliver a fresh take on modern Australian cuisine, a stellar selection of drinks and a forthcoming rooftop bar that will solidify the north end of The Valley as the place to be. more

Rocking the suburbs – Everton Plaza’s Park Lane celebrates the opening of its first wave of retailers

A considerable stir was caused across Brisbane's northern suburbs when Everton Plaza initially announced plans for a brand-new addition to its dining and shopping hub and now, after a year of waiting, the first retailers of the anticipated Park Lane precinct are opening to the public. Complementing the existing Everton Plaza retail portion (anchored by Coles and many existing long-term tenants), the new retail village features many of the area's original elements. COMUNiTI (formerly known as MARSDEN Collective) has overseen the design, accentuating the area's original architectural facade with contemporary touches. The resulting precinct is shaping up to be an impressive blend of old and new, with Park Lane's first wave of retailers looking to set the standard for what is still to come. more

Taro’s Ramen brings its brothy goodness to Stones Corner

The past few months have seen plenty of activity from the Taro’s Ramen crew. After transforming Taro’s Express on Edward Street into a wholly vegan outlet, the team was given the sad news that the beloved-yet-temporary location would be reclaimed and renovated sooner than expected. The closure spurred owner Taro Akimoto into action, seeking a new spot to implement his brand and keep his Edward Street family employed. The City’s loss is Stones Corner’s gain – Taro’s Ramen opened a brand-new store on Old Cleveland Road, bringing with it Taro’s exceptionally nourishing noodles and bone-warming broth. more
