The wait is over – here’s the first look at woodfired superstar Agnes in action

When the team behind Agnes officially opened the doors for the restaurant's first dinner service on Tuesday August 11, they did so with a sigh of relief. It's been a long time coming for the anticipated eatery, which has been the subject of much chatter since it was first announced in early 2019. Despite some hiccups in building approvals, delays in construction and a pesky pandemic, enthusiasm never waned thanks to a well-received pastry-based pivot. Finally the wait is over – Agnes is officially open, showcasing a mouth-watering menu of inventive woodfired fare, similarly smoke-kissed cocktails and one of the most impressive interiors we've seen in recent memory. more

Get a taste of central Mexico at Teneriffe newcomer La Patrona Mexican Cuisine

Anyone who has spent time in Mexico knows that its food scene is incredibly diverse. In fact, the catch-all term of 'Mexican cuisine' largely fails to communicate the complexity of the country's regional styles. From the seafood-based cuisine of Baja California to the African, Caribbean and Middle Eastern-influenced flavours found along the Yucatán Peninsula, the country's culinary diversity is a far cry from what we know of Mexican cuisine in Brisbane. Thankfully, that's slowly changing. The last couple of years have seen an influx of region-specific Mexican concepts arriving to our dining scene, and the latest eatery to make its mark is La Patrona Mexican Cuisine. Opening to the public on Tuesday August 11, La Patrona will shine a light on the flavours of Mexico's Bajío region – dishes that you're unlikely to find anywhere else in the city. Roman cuisine comes to The Valley with new late-night eatery Eterna

As the old proverb goes, "When in Rome, do as the Roman's do". But what, exactly, do Romans do? They don't go to the Colosseum, St. Peter's Basilica or the Trevi Fountain – such landmarks are typically reserved for tourists. They don't ascend the Spanish Steps either, unless it's part of their daily commute. So, what do Romans do? The answer is deceptively simple – they eat. Among all of Italy's regional cuisines, Roman fare is some of the most unheralded – especially here in Brisbane. But that's about to change. Eterna – a newly open eatery located in the heart of Fortitude Valley is debuting with a menu filled with enticing Roman-inspired street food – think rustic and uncomplicated fare served in an intimate late-night setting. more

Heritage and harmony – Emily Yeoh Restaurant arrives in Paddington

When we last saw Emily Yeoh battling it out on the sixth season of MasterChef in 2014, there was an inkling that Emily's talents would take her well beyond the show. Our hunch was right – soon after Emily was learning the ins and outs of the culinary trade from Josue Lopez at GOMA Restaurant and Jake Nicolson at Blackbird Bar & Grill, before scoring a spot in Ben Shewry's top-tier kitchen team at Attica in Melbourne. After honing her skills, Emily returned to Brisbane with the intent of opening her own restaurant. After a few months of eager anticipation, Emily Yeoh Restaurant is set to officially launch its dine-in service on Monday August 10, but it is treating those that can't wait to a streamlined version of the menu available now for takeaway. Brisbane’s restaurants and cafes reopening for dine-in service

After months of lockdowns and takeaway-only feasts, it seems like going out for dinner is finally back on the menu. The first stage of easing the federal and state restrictions has commenced, meaning that restaurants and cafes can slowly start to welcome diners back in groups of ten from Saturday May 16. If you're not up to date on the government's three stage plan to reopen, you can catch up here, but essentially there will be a gradual removal of restrictions until venues are back to serving at full capacity. As great as this news is, it's important to remember that we're not out of the woods yet, so it's crucial that restaurants and diners adhere to safety measures otherwise we'll be back at square one in no time. If you're keen to dine out, make sure you book – nearly all restaurants and cafes will be implementing strict reservation-only policies, so be sure to check in with the… more
