The round-up: Brisbane’s best cheese and charcuterie spots

Whoever discovered that cheese and cured meat go well together deserves more praise than they could possibly handle. The humble platter is one of the most satisfying nibble options out there and several Brisbane establishments are excelling at putting together top smallgoods for us to savour. If you are craving some charcuterie and cheese, the following spots are must-try destinations.

Gerard’s Bar and Charcuterie: One of the biggest names in charcuterie is without a doubt Gerard’s Bar. Boasting a mind-boggling selection of salume, cheeses, pates and terrines, this Fortitude Valley spot does finger food perfectly.

Prova Pizzeria: If you don’t do charcuterie in half measures, you’ll get a kick out of Prova Pizzeria’s offering. Picture a line of hanging prosciutto and a board piled high with cheeses, meats, olives and more. This monument to snacking serves two easily, and is reasonably priced for what’s plated up.

Corbett & Claude: This inner-city den allows patrons to build their own meat and cheese board. Go wild with some prosciutto, wagyu pastrami and organic brie, complete with peach muscatel chutney and quince paste.

The French Food Shop: Fortitude Valley’s very own French cafe and friterie offers patrons a selection of tapas including a range of meat and cheeses paired with imported French wine.

Billykart Provisions: Have some locally sourced meat shaved off and paired with a divine cheese and enjoy on-site with a growler or bottle of wine.

Pearl Cafe: Head upstairs to The Servery and select from an array of local cured meats, artisan cheeses, succulent olives and darn good terrine.

Tippler’s Tap: South Bank’s beer haven whips up a fancy board piled high with farmhouse cheeses, olives and pickles.

The Village Social: Build up a board to share with friends by selecting a base of either spiced fruit chutney or quince paste, and then add Spanish chorizo, German speck, hot sopressa and your choice of cheese ­such as blue, camembert, cheddar. Whatever you like – it’s all Gouda!

Yorks Hollow: Recline into comfortable furniture and soak up the intimate atmosphere while enjoying a delicious cocktail and sampling from a seasonal selection of meat and cheeses.

Grape Therapy: Wine lovers from all corners of Brisbane can descend of Grape Therapy in the Valley for a bottle of something fancy, accompanied by a mixed board of cheeses and cold meats from Black Pearl Epicure.

Peel Street Grill and Cellar: Snack on boutique cheeses that are sourced and flown to Brisbane regularly, paired with the likes of smoked wagyu and Sardinian salumi.

Paddington Deli & Epicerie: Enjoy some intimate atmosphere with some small plates or a charcuterie to share – includes a selection of deli-cured meats and other nibbles.

Cru Bar + Cellar: James Street diners can sample from Cru Bar’s extensive cheese menu, with moreish flavours including gorgonzola dolce, le dauphin cow’s milk cheese or Healey’s Pyengana – aged for 12 months.

Aquitaine Brasserie: Head to South Bank and sample a selection of European and Australian cheeses at Aquitaine, or settle for a delectable duo of Mercedel cheese with fermented cabbage dust and roasted walnuts.

Green Beacon Brewing: Known for it’s stellar craft beer, Green Beacon Brewing also serves up a range of share plates and cheeses. Enjoy a selection of Australian salami and a wedge of cheese of your choice.

Bar Pacino: This riverside location offers more than a great view. Snack on a selection of soft bries, creamy blues and chard cheddar cheeses or dig into a mixed antipasto platter of cured meats, cheese, grilled vegetables and marinated olives.

The Stables Craft Bar & Kitchen: Located on Racecourse Road, The Stables offers a neat selection of lunch and dinner options including the chef’s selection of cheese, prosciutto, bread and accompaniments.

The Catchment Brewing Co: Grab some friends and indulges in a range of sharing platters. The Brewery’s Big Board includes sliced meats, cheese, vegetables, pickles and olives and is well worth sampling.

Sailor and Walrus: Partnering with Fino Food and Wine, Sailor and Walrus puts together some primo platters with Yasa caviar, Mount Zero olives as well as artisanal cheeses and cured meats.

Fitz + Potts: Craft a craft beer then settle in on the deck with one of three share platters. Fitz + Potts offer a vegan platter, one for cheese fiends and one for carnivores.

Julius Pizzeria: Aside from the stellar pasta and pizza options, Julius offers a great range of antipasti platters with thinly sliced cured meats, olives and grissini.

Mr Edward’s Alehouse: Browse and select your choice of meat and cheese from the charcuterie window and sit down to a heaped platter. Spicy spreadable salami, fermented sausage, black summer truffles, cave-aged French cheese, decadent triple cream brie and Coopers beer bread are just a fraction of what’s on offer.

Hawkes & Crosby: If you make your way out to Anstead, drop in to Hawkes & Crosby and sample the pork terrine with pate, pickled figs and rye.

Gianni’s Kitchen: With it’s own deli serving take home portions of delicious Italian goods, it’s a no brainer that Gianni’s Kitchen would have a ridiculously good antipasti offering.
