Brisbane’s food-truck scene continues to grow

Brisbane’s food-truck scene is expanding as quickly as our subsequent waistlines, so we thought it was time to round up the herd and check which vendors might have flown under the radar.

From its humble beginnings of a solo The Bun Mobile rolling through the suburbs, the Brisbane food-truck scene has now bloomed into an impressive fleet offering everything from coffee to crepes. Innovative events like the Food Truck PheNomNomNom and Nom At Night are celebrating the local street-food scene, as new vendors pop up seemingly every week.

While street-smart munchers might be familiar with the likes of Local Mobile Deli, King Of The WingsThe Pasta Cruiser and Vira Lata Food Truck, there are many more local gems that may have slipped by your maw unnoticed. The Pizzantica Kombi van is bringing traditional Napoli pizza to Hawthorne’s Love Your Local Markets, Boundary Street Markets, Davies Park Market, Eagle Farm Market and Coorparoo Bowls Club’s monthly Off The Green. Those after Japanese nibbles can hail the Sushi Neko Food Van at markets like Milton’s Little Cribb Street and festivals around Brisbane, as the truck dishes up temari sushi balls, gourmet nibbles and specials like gluten-free soy wrap sushi rolls. Juan More Taco will whisk you away to Mexico and the spicy snacks that fill those arid plains. Dishing up soft corn gluten-free tortillas loaded with slow-cooked meats and salsa, the nosh emerging from this retro food bus is a must-try. Caffeine seekers and hot chocolate lovers can fuel up with Half Lever Espresso at local Brisbane markets and special events like No Lights No Lycra, while those with a taste for beer can track down Stone & Wood Brewing’s cute lime-green-and-white caravan, Bonnie.

Catch a few of these local providers at Thank Truck It’s Thursday from 5.30 pm tonight, Thursday July 31 at Wandering Cooks in South Brisbane.
