Raise a glass of craft beer to Brewsvegas 2015

Brewsvegas is back again, giving us all the excuses we need to spend one glorious week sipping craft beer in venues around Brisbane.

As far as we’re concerned, beer is certainly something worth celebrating. From this Saturday March 21 through to Sunday March 29, bars and arts venues around Brisbane will be honouring local brews and the city’s craft-beer culture at the 2015 Brewsvegas festival. The grass-roots, community-oriented gala will be hosting a bunch of events all over the city, so we’ve trawled through the program to share our top picks for this year’s festival.

Join the free opening party from 5:00 pm this Saturday at Wandering Cooks for food trucks, premium brews and a charity raffle that will give you the chance to win beer money for the entire week of the festival. Recover with a Sunday session of matched food and beer at Hops Scotch & Beans, a special Beerkary Bakery pop-up at Hoo Ha Bar or a unique live performance that will see the Brisbane Brewing Co. team using everyday brewery objects to create some original music.

Start the following week on an extra happy note with an appreciation night for the boilermaker – yes, that beer-meets-shot concoction – at The Gresham Bar, before heading along to Newstead Brewing Co. for five back-to-back Quentin Tarantino films, alongside unlimited popcorn, a gourmet Royale with cheese and a special keg release from Croft Brewing Company. The Tuesday will see a Who Brewed It murder mystery night at Embassy Bar, while Wednesday will involve a Stone & Wood cocktail-making competition at Bosc. On Friday March 27, join the Goat Pie Guy and Mountain Goat Beer for a hands-on cooking class on the art of cooking with brews, before witnessing the mock marriage ceremony of two esteemed breweries on the Saturday. The festival will also see the release of limited-edition beers, including the result of James Squire collaborating with another brewery for the first time in history – try it at The Charming Squire. The festivities will wind down with a cracking closing party at The Burrow on Saturday night, featuring live music, market stalls and the release of a limited-edition collaboration beer, before local venues compete in the Third Annual Chilli Cook-Off at Kettle and Tin on the Sunday.

Find a venue map online and keep watch on the festival’s Facebook page and website for event updates.
