Local Black Sheep Coffee chosen by Gordon Ramsay

Local Black Sheep Coffee chosen by Gordon Ramsay

The black sheep of the family is usually the odd one out, a bit of a wayward soul. But while there’s nothing disreputable about Black Sheep Coffee, this local coffee roaster was indeed a little different when it started up five years ago, hand-roasting fairtrade, specialty beans before Brisbane’s coffee awareness truly picked up.

Sourcing green beans from small plantations in Columbia, Dominican Republic, India, Indonesia, Guatemala and Ethiopia, Black Sheep Coffee takes pride in selecting single-origin and organic beans from smaller estates where the quality is better and ethical and environmental responsibilities are ensured.

With 15 years of roasting behind him, owner Mark Gloftis’ passion for coffee led him to branch out on his own to have more control over his product. From the early days starting out serving milky blends of flavoursome beans at a humble market stall, Black Sheep Coffee has now found a permanent place in one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants.

Buy a bag of beans or sample an espresso straight from the source on Saturdays at the Black Sheep den at Rocklea Markets, fitted out with recycled timber, vintage knick-knacks and astroturf.
