Find contemporary French fare at new Aquitaine Brasserie

The latest gourmet installment to join the riverside dining precinct of River Quay at South Bank is Aquitaine Brasserie. Drawing influences from the varied cuisine of the south-west pocket of France, Aquitaine Brasserie delivers classic French fare in a contemporary manner.

A split-level restaurant with alfresco dining downstairs and an intimate mezzanine abode upstairs, Aquitaine Brasserie offers an ambience similar to that of Riviera-side bistro. Run by Nick Pinn of Malt Dining and Peter Kedwell of Buzz Bistro, this latest River Quay restaurant mixes local fresh produce and internationally sought delicacies within its menu.

Classic gastronomic offerings include French onion soup, steak tartare and bouillabaisse, with modern flavours coming into play with the savoury beetroot risotto and sweet cinnamon ice-cream. Marinated prunes, escargot and foie gras terrine are staples of the Aquitaine-region kitchen, and so too can be found amongst the tempting dishes on offer. The carefully edited wine list at Aquitaine Brasserie is divided into regions rather than grapes, giving diners the opportunity to discover a French drop or try the Australian equivalent.

Aquitaine Brasserie is a picturesque spot for sitting and sipping a crisp wine from Alsace and enjoying modern French cuisine, while watching the sun set over the city.
