Alfred & Constance opens in Fortitude Valley
After much anticipation and many a pop-up teaser event, the latest venue from hotelier and foodie Damian Griffiths opens this Friday. A locale of grandiose proportions, Alfred & Constance houses a series of nourishment experiences.
Combining six themed nooks under two adjoining heritage-home roofs, Alfred & Constance sees White Lightning Tiki Bar, The Vanguard Beer Garden, Alfred’s Cafe, The Hidden Bar, Hemingway Room and Tunes Bar comingling within. The White Lightning Tiki Bar injects a spot of Polynesian-inspired escapism into a typically Queensland atmosphere, with the rum-related, fern-filled Hemingway room jutting off this tropical corner. With New York bartending maestro Richard Boccato advising the team on all things tiki orientated, White Lightning Tiki Bar brings a spot of Painkiller New York to Brisbane’s cocktail shores.
The Vanguard Beer Garden combines gastropub fare with craft beers, with the menu of wood-fire-roasted meats and fresh seasonal salads designed by Jocelyn Hancock (formerly of Jocelyn’s Provisions) and head chef David Lindesay. Patrons can try The A&C Hamburger of vintage cheddar, crispy bacon, spicy tomato relish and chips, or indulge in salted crackling, chorizo scotch egg, slabs of Queensland meat or some rustic vego options.
Christina Hatzipetrou, formerly of Flamingo Cafe, has taken the reins of Alfred’s Cafe – a coffee nook offering sit-in and takeaway eats and pastries by day, and transformsing into a dessert and boozy juice bar by night. Other cosy crannies include small function space The Black Room and the music-orientated lounge Tunes Bar, while The Hidden Bar is a cellar running beneath both the houses.
Set on the corner of Alfred and Constance Streets in Fortitude Valley, Alfred & Constance has been designed by Alexander Lotersztain, who also executed the Limes fit-out. Combining bespoke pieces from the Derlot collection with vintage furniture and knick knacks from around the world, the design is highly detailed and cleverly curated. Make sure to check out the eclectic beer tap handles in each room at the opening this weekend.
