A drop of Italia at 1889 Enoteca

Snuggled up amongst the other delectable food destinations in the Woolloongabba Antique Precinct is 1889 Enoteca, a classic Italian restaurant renowned for its tasty dishes. For the wine enthusiast, it should also be acknowledged as an almost unrivalled grape destination, thanks to its extensive list of bottles available.

Like at any good Italian restaurant, the wine list is also distinctly Italian, encompassing strong, iconic drops from the wine country. There is also a selection of European and Australian modern classics fit to accompany a hearty pasta dish or a celebratory drink with a friend.

Fortunately for those who like to try a touch of everything (like we do), many of the wines on offer at 1889 Enoteca are available by the glass, giving you the chance to test and taste lush flavours to your heart’s content. For lovers of a good red, try the 2010 Monte d’all’Ora ‘Saseti’ Valpolicella Classico. With a medium body, it’s a softly textured wine that comes from a tiny biodynamic vineyard in Valpolicella. But if you fancy a white, or something light to accompany a seafood dish, we recommend the 2009 Guccione ‘Veruzza’ Trebbiano. Another biodynamic production, this fresh, fruity wine has journeyed from one of Sicily’s best producers.
